Welcome to my Blog !
As a word of warning, if you came to this site looking for fashion, decorating and organization ideas or diet and fitness tips, you might be disappointed. But if you came hoping to see what reality is like, settle in, cause it is going to be a bumpy ride. I hope to share with you here a little about me and what I have gone through in my life and the lessons that I have learned. This will be my own Personal Development/Motivational/Health blog. So if you see a mistake or a problem, be kind please. Just keep reading … I am still learning and surviving.
A little about me … I’m a 74 year old who has lived a full life … full of many ups and just as many downs. I love the beach! I am the mother of three live births (David, Paul & Kimberly). I have six wonderful adventurous grandchildren … of which one has special needs. I also am the great-grandmother (Mammie) to the most awesome little boy named Henry. Currently he is the love of my life!
I became a widow just after I turned the age of 49 … way too young. My husband Ken died of cancer from Agent Orange Chemicals used in Viet Nam … He was an Army Special Forces Green Beret.
Now fast forward seventeen years to May 2012 … I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Grade 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. My thoughts were … Holy Crap! … I have breast cancer and I hate Pink with a passion! Now what? In June 2012 I had the cancer removed along with 42 lymph nodes at Duke Medical Center. I went thru six months of chemotherapy … Adriamycin “Red Devil,” Cytoxan, and Taxotere “the Nerve Killer.” This was followed by 10 weeks of Monday through Friday (5 days a week) of radiation. Let me say that if there was a side effect associated with either the chemo or the radiation … yep … I have them all! Since August of 2013 I am considered NED … no evidence of disease! My doctors say I’m a “Rock Star” and they feel I will be a success story for them! … I just passed the eight year magic marker!
I am a lifetime active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints … most folks call us Mormons! My kids make fun of me because I do like listening to Joel Osteen’s fill-good sermons too! I love to travel … especially to any beach area. I have been in every state except for the six most northeast states. I have seen ever natural wonder of America except for the Redwood Forest … which is #1 on my bucket list and I hope to visit there soon. I have seen ever man made wonder of America except for the Space Needle in Seattle, WA … and this is on my bucket list too. I lived in Japan … as an “army brat” for my first two years of schooling … also lived in Hawaii during my early toddler years … don’t remember a thing about it! Nope I can’t hula or speak Japanese … but I do love rice!
So you can see that the life of Phyllis Talbot has been one big exciting roller coaster ride … ups and downs! I always tell folks that I’m on “Plan F” of my life. Plans A through E have already been blown through! I just continue to make the best of everything that comes my way and have been extremely blessed for my positive attitude. I am very fortunate to have many great people in my life who helped me along the way. I will tell you up front that Heavenly Father does love you … but I am definitely his favorite! I have been blessed beyond measure!
From my life’s adventures so far I do feel that I might have a little bit of wisdom that I can share with you in this blog! That’s my plans anyway! Oh yes … did I tell you that I love the beach!
I’m really glad that you came by. I realize that everyone is so busy and life moves pretty fast … so I really do appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to check my blog out! Thanks.
I appreciate your feedback to my blog. If you have any comments or suggestions I do welcome them and would love to hear them. Not that all criticism is a fun thing but I realize that honest criticism given in an honest positive manner is something we can all learn and grow from if we are open to hearing it. I will always listen to your comments and I do welcome your suggestions for my blog! Always!
My blog will always be changing because I am still changing … almost daily. You are too! In fact … the world is. So don’t get too comfortable. I will do my best to bring you content that will inspire, motivate, uplift, interest, inform and maybe even have you walking away thinking what I have to say and seeing things in a different way than before you came. I promise to be honest about me and my life, what I have experienced and who I am. I will never suggest anything to you or for you that I haven’t either tried myself, believe in or have researched and know the facts about.
So … Thanks for letting me into your life! Did I say that I do love the beach!
Just saying …
